Milan lost in Leverkusen, but reacted in the second half. Did you see him in recovery anyway?
“Unfortunately in games of this level if you give teams like that time it’s difficult to recover. In the second half we saw a totally different Milan compared to the timid and awkward one in the first. In the second half Theo also hit the crossbar and there was a serious refereeing error. Milan would have at least deserved a draw but now they are called upon to win the next one because at the moment there are zero points in two games.”
Inter, on the other hand, found victory against a strong Red Star team not in the Champions League.
“Meanwhile, Taremi’s performance is significant, I also liked Lautaro’s gesture in giving him the penalty. I then remember how on previous occasions we had talked about the criticism of Lautaro for the missed goals; one can accuse a period of non-prolificness, but then he returns to score in the league and in the Champions League and confirms that he is one of the best strikers in the world.”
What are your thoughts on the investigation into the ultras in recent days?
“It is a providential investigation, because we need to clean the stadiums of individuals who should have nothing to do with football. In these first days of the championship there are averages for the presence of the public that have not been recorded for twenty-seven years. There is a need to guarantee an environment free from those who commit crimes and don’t care about what happens on the pitch.
The effort must now be joint between society and the state. We have seen how in the past Juventus and Lazio have tried to eradicate these dynamics from the stadiums.”
Tonight Atalanta will face Shakhtar Donetsk. What do you expect?
“I expect a European response, like the one seen with Arsenal, with which Atalanta offered a brilliant performance. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to deal with a lot of injuries and when you change a lot, despite having an excellent staff, the coach has to deal with the gradual introduction of new ones. Kossonou, for example, has offered comforting signs, Samardzic is getting into gear and is also expecting Zaniolo. For Samardzic we are talking about a player who had been targeted by Milan, Juve and obviously Inter. He has pure class and can give a lot to a department already full of players. Zaniolo is getting closer to his best form, but I think he is aware of how tempting this opportunity is also from a national perspective.
In short, Atalanta is a team that has excellent potential, but which must solve the problem of defensive fragility.
In any case, on other occasions Gasperini has accustomed us to slow starts, only to then go back up. Winning today would be fuel for the next matches.”
What can Juventus do in Leipzig instead?
“Having a coach with this proactive and positive spirit is one of the best aspects together with clarity in choices. Everyone must earn ownership on the pitch, so much so that for example Danilo remained on the bench for the first five matchdays, only to then play from the first minute against Genoa. The construction site is obviously still open, because a few games cannot allow us to say that the team is perfect, but the path taken is the right one. They have an unbeaten defense in the league and are now looking for confirmation against Leipzig, who have launched many talents and who are playing very well. An interesting match awaits us.”
Finally, Bologna would need a super feat in Liverpool.
“The sports sites are dripping with images of enthusiasm, Gianni Morandi even recalled the Beatles. Then at midnight Bologna celebrates its birthday, the club couldn’t ask for more. Liverpool have had a very important start to the season, but it is an opportunity that Bologna deserves to enjoy from the first to the last minute.”
