Man United shaky, Ten Hag back on the gridiron: he has two games to save his skin

Erik ten Haghere we go again. Except for the FA Cup trophy, he has always been with one foot in and one foot out of Manchester United for a season, last year, which was, to say the least, discontinuous and disappointing in the Premier League table. The history emanating from the English club is well-established and for 11 years now it has been missing from the league as a direct rival for the title, not to mention the unjustified absence from the top levels of European competitions. Yet, in the summer the Red Devils’ ownership preferred to follow up on the project and confirm the Dutch coach until 2026.

Returning to the present, however, the latest negative result that sparked new internal discontent was the heavy 3-0 defeat by Tottenham. An unacceptable verdict for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and beyond, not to mention the skimpy draw recently obtained in the Europa League against modest Twente. Slag which, according to information taken from The Sunwould require Ten Hag to revive the team’s fortunes within the next two games: Porto and Aston Villa.

The pressure on the Manchester United manager has increased dramatically, given the £600m investment in wages since he was appointed in 2022. And now the Red Devils they are in 12th place in the Premier League table, already six points away from the Champions League places with as many games played. In short, it will be a critical week for Ten Hag who if he hasn’t received an ultimatum… we’re close. The former Feyenoord coach saved himself from a corner on more than one occasion, especially after the second trophy obtained in the summer since he sat on the bench. We’ll see if he can save his skin again.

Ten Hag reiterated on Sunday that he was not worried about his future: “No, I’m not thinking about it. We made the decision to all stay together, as an ownership and as a management team, in the summer. Furthermore, we made the decision based on a clear analysis of what we need to improve as an organization and how we want to build the team.” Chiosando: “We all agree: the ownership, the management group, the staff and the players. I don’t have this concern.”
