Milan, Fonseca: “It’s important to win after the derby, you have to know how to play games like this”

The Milan coach Paulo Fonseca spoke to the microphones of DAZNafter the 3-0 home success against Lecce.

Has the derby rekindled Milan?
“He brought confidence to the fans and mainly to the players. Today it was too important to win, after the derby there is always a state of euphoria. The players played a serious game, not everything was perfect but we had good moments and offensive situations and we didn’t concede a goal which is always important.”

In the first 35 minutes, what did you want to see different offensively?
“This team must learn to play this type of match, our positional play must be different. At half-time we talked about many details that needed to be improved. We must wait for the right moment, understand where the space is. It is important to improve this , the team must learn to play like this. I said before the match that it would be difficult, the team must know how to play these matches better without spaces and in the second half we did better.”

Full-backs very close to the centre-backs.
“In the first games we allowed too much space. Today we changed the midfielder who comes to help and the full-back who closes the space. Things that need to be improved, when we are close to our area we can’t leave a lot of time to the wide players to make the cross We have to be more aggressive when the full-back attacks the winger.”

Pulisic has the numbers of a true striker.
“This way he has more effective participation. It’s not like he’s caught inside, at different times he can play more open. He knows how to play in internal spaces, he scored goals again because he’s close to the goal.”
