Olivier Giroud immediately proves to be fundamental and decisive in his new experience with the Stars and Stripes: during the night, the former AC Milan striker scored his second goal for Los Angeles FC, the team he joined after his previous contract with the Rossoneri expired, which proved invaluable in helping him win his first trophy with the MLS team.
Giroud unlocked the US Open Cup final in the 53rd minute (the national cup of the United States of America) between his LAFC and Sporting Kansas City. The latter then found the equalizer, until in extra time two more goals from the Californians arrived for the final 3-1. The Frenchman found himself free in the heart of the penalty area and with a touch from close range started the dance on the scoreboard. His first goal with Los Angeles, however, dated back to another final, the Leagues Cup final lost 3-1 against Columbus Crew in August.
