After the away draw against Reggiana, tomorrow the Salerno will take to the field at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine for the round of 32 of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa (6:30 p.m., live on free-to-air TV on Canale 20 Mediaset). The Granata qualified for the match at Udinese’s home after eliminating Spezia in the 32nd minute: whoever advances to the next round will treat themselves to the round of 16 at San Siro against Inter in December.
“Important stage, stimulating match, tough opponent but also renewed belief in our potential. These are the foundations that will accompany us to tomorrow’s match. Against Reggiana we did not concede a goal for the first time, a positive fact that gives confidence to everyone and is obviously due to every department. We also created a lot, unfortunately not finishing. I asked the group to be more aggressive in front of goal. The test in front of a Serie A team will be important to understand what our progress is and where we are, in every aspect. We will probably have less space, when we find it we will have to be clear-headed”, says mister Giovanni Martusciello on the eve.
Looking at the last three official precedents at the home of the Friulians, Salernitana is undefeated (one win, two draws) but these were league matches. “The Coppa Italia is a competition we care about, we want to make a good impression and play an open match. Going through would be nice, although today our priority is to build on our level of growth in view of the league. There was little time to recover energy after the match in Reggio, but at the moment I have a deep squad with more alternatives for each role. For this reason, I could give space to some guys who have had less so far and we will take advantage of this to give more minutes to players who need to find the best condition”, continued the coach, before expressing an opinion on the team led by Kosta Runjaic: “They started the season great, stopping strong teams like Bologna and Lazio and settling in the upper parts of the standings. I saw the match against Roma and they still did good things, despite the result being round. We will also have to pay attention to the desire for redemption there and especially to that of players who have had little space to stand out. It will not be easy, I only ask my boys to give their best and interpret the game as if it were a championship”.
