The final of the U20 Women’s World Cup was played in Colombia last night, a final with an Asian flavour that pitted Japan against North Korea, with the latter emerging victorious and putting yet another youth trophy in their collection. A 1-0 victory at the end of a match dominated for long stretches by the Japanese who acted mainly on the counterattack, but which remained in the balance until the end due to a certain lack of concreteness on the part of the young players. Azaleas (the nickname of North Korean women).
The final was decided by one of the youngest and most talented players on the world stage: Choe Il Son, born in 2007, who also won the title of top scorer of the tournament, with six goals, and best player of the competition. A talent that could repeat itself in about a month at the U17 World Cup where the People’s Korea starts among the favorites.
