Marco Bucci meets Alberto Gilardino and Andrea Sottil. The Mayor of Genoa opened the doors of Palazzo Tursi, the seat of the Municipality, to the two coaches with two days to go until the challenge valid for the round of 32 of the Coppa Italia between Genoa and Sampdoria. A highly anticipated match, which lasts all year due to the healthy rivalry between the rossoblù and the blucerchiati. And for this reason the mayor reserved direct words to give a conciliatory signal following the latest news episodes that have occurred in the Ligurian capital.

“Sport educates good citizens. With Genoa 2024 we have invested in sport, in this perspective the derby is an opportunity to show Italy and Europe how to do a derby. It must not only be a sporting celebration but also from the point of view of the city that wants to see a beautiful show, of those who want to enjoy it by behaving in a civil manner. We want a stadium where it is nice to go with the family, a modern stadium where you can spend time before and after the match and to do that we need to train ourselves to know how to manage the fans.

My message is to the teams and all the fans: we want this derby to be remembered as a derby in which the fans give a great example of fan spirit. Everyone tells me that our teams’ choreographies are the most beautiful: that it is a beautiful choreographic show but not that the next day it will be in the newspapers because something negative happened. Let’s enjoy the derby without dirtying it with illegal behavior. I am sure it will be a great celebration.”
