Empoli, D’Aversa and the lineup choices: “I don’t give anything to anyone. Whoever deserves it plays”

In his press conference on the eve of the match against Torino in the Coppa Italia, the Empoli coach, Roberto D’Aversaalso spoke about his training choices: “To ensure that I have more players in condition and ready, I have to try them. In the championship everyone will be needed, they themselves will have to be good at being part of the group. A coach doesn’t give anything away to anyone, what one gets is because it is deserved.

The coach doesn’t make choices that are against his own interests, but to win the game. It’s the players who make you understand if the choices are right. These guys train a lot from the first day of retreat, there will also be forced choices but those who take the field from the beginning will have to give more than anything. Let’s erase what was done today and think that we will face a very difficult game, against the team first in the championship. But it is a rewarding game.”

How satisfying is it to see your team perform with veteran strength?
“I don’t want to be repetitive, but the temperature of the team is given by daily work. Even this morning, despite the waste that could be there. They have an ease in laughing and joking to be serious, with great concentration. This is a very important aspect that I always see in the boys. For any objective, even the non-starters are fundamental, both for the weekly work, and because when they are called into question they must not lower the intensity of the team. There is no “I” in front of “we”, they always think of the team. We work on technical errors, on the mentality I expect that we never fail. Our path is clear”
