The reasons for the defeat?
“We never gave the impression of being a team. We had to do more, me first. Milan deserved to win: they defended better, they were more compact and we played below par, you all saw it. We were not the usual Inter, I tried to change something but little changed. It’s a defeat that stings”.
Do you expect something more in the impact on those who enter?
“Yes, but that’s not an excuse, the team approached both the first and second half badly. Those who came on should have done something more: I’m the coach and I’m responsible, we’ll take this defeat. It hurts us, we know what the derby is but in football you have to accept it, as long as you analyse it in the right way”.
Did you underestimate Milan?
“I can’t tell you. We prepared well, without listening to anything. We probably lacked a bit of clarity: in the choices they weren’t the usual team we know. But they weren’t underestimated, Milan is a strong team, built with many fast players. We had prepared well, on the pitch we saw little of them”.
How much of Manchester is there in tonight’s evening, mentally and physically?
“Well, Milan had played Liverpool the day before, like us. The team we met also spent physical and mental energy, and they changed fewer players than us. We should have been more of a team, we didn’t give the feeling we’ve been giving for the last three years and football doesn’t forgive”.
