23.29 – The press conference begins.
What went wrong?
“Many things, we wanted to do better and we weren’t able to put in a good performance. A defeat came, it hurts and even more so in the derby. We have to continue and think about the next one.”
What is needed for the step change?
“Let’s not look for excuses, today we lost and we drew a few games in the first few days. We could have done better, but we are mature enough: we knew that, after last year, winning again would have been difficult. And this start to the season shows it, but I’m not just talking about us: many other teams have also dropped points and we will have to be good at recovering”.
How do you explain the different approach compared to Manchester?
“Certain games prepare themselves, from many points of view. We didn’t have a good approach, we didn’t play a great game and we take home a defeat. However, I don’t think there could have been any satisfaction after Manchester: from the most experienced to the youngest, everyone in the squad has a lot of desire. I don’t think there is this issue”.
Did you expect such a hungry Milan?
“We knew what to expect, they came from a start like that and showed more determination on the pitch. We expected a Milan like that and we definitely wanted to play a different game.”
Were you expecting a Serie A so close, with at least four teams fighting for the Scudetto?
“We saw it at the start of the championship, all the teams – apart from the top ones – have strengthened and will fight. There will be no easy matches, the start of the championship has shown that and we will have to be good at bringing home the greatest number of victories having many points available to fight for something important”.
