In the last few hours a meeting was held in Florence between the new mayor, Sara Funaro, and the Fiorentina world represented by the president Rocco Commisso and the general manager Alessandro Ferrari with the stadium in the background. On the sidelines of the meeting, the mayor spoke to the media present, including Firenzeviola.it: “It was a positive meeting and I was happy to meet and welcome President Commisso, his wife and director Ferrari. Now we will have to have a whole series of meetings to establish the next steps and the technical aspects. On Padovani we have always maintained that the Administration has the will to redevelop the rugby facility, like other fields owned by the administration itself. We are working on the other solution and when we are ready we will let you know”
Does playing time and costs increase at Franchi? “We haven’t gone into the technical details, we’ll let you know later.” Is there any news on the timetable? “That’s what I was saying now, today we met and had a constructive chat. Then there will be all those regarding the technical tables and we will say everything, even the timetable”. How did you find Commisso? “It was a pleasant meeting as I said and I was pleased to meet Rocco Commisso’s wife who I had not yet met, unlike the president who I had already met on other occasions especially at the stadium but not yet as mayor”. What do you say to the fans? “I reiterate that our interest is to give the city a redeveloped stadium so that Fiorentina can continue to play in Florence because this is our objective and will continue to be so.”
The Viola DG had also spoken previously, Alessandro Ferrari: “The meeting went well. The mayor met Catherine and Rocco, we exchanged information about the past and the future. I would say it was a positive meeting, from which to start again. We haven’t had a timetable yet, we will meet again in the next few days to find a solution to let Fiorentina play again at the Franchi, even for ’25/26. For us, the Padovani option is not viable. Reassurances about the missing funds? We have had reassurances from the Municipality that we will all work together to find the best solution for Fiorentina”.
