Reggiana-Salernitana… four years later. In the midst of the pandemic, it was the scandal match

“AC Reggiana announces that – from the tests carried out in the last few hours on the members of the team group who tested negative following the Ascoli away match – two new cases of positivity to Covid-19 have emerged, involving a player and a member of the technical staff. The situation currently involves 29 members: 22 players and 7 members of the staff”: it was October 27, 2020, and the day of the Reggio Emilia it opened with this statement, which – in the midst of a pandemic – announced an outbreak in the team group, which had already seen the number of infected people continuously grow in the previous days.

The match against Cittadella, the week before on the indicated date, was postponed, but then the question related to the match against Salernitana arose which should have been played on the weekend of October 30. The president of the Emilians, Carmelo Salerno, obviously announced that he would not send the team to Campania, but the Lega B – faithfully rigid to the rules – did not allow the postponement of the match: Reggiana, as mentioned, had already requested the postponement – granted – of the match against Cittadella, and the rules allowed for only one request slot in the season. The match was therefore lost by default for the Directionwho, moreover, were also relegated on the sidelines of that season.

After almost exactly four years, here are the two teams facing each other again, even if this time the match will be played in Emilia, at the ‘Mapei’. A wound that still burns?
