What kind of Lazio will be needed to win in Florence? How are Gigot and Castellanos?
“It will be a complicated match like all the others, we know the difficulties and how we get there. The team is fine, they have done a good week of work even if not exactly complete, it is a short week but we have done a good job. Tomorrow there will be the finishing touches, fortunately for Taty there is nothing important but I don’t want to risk anything, while Gigot had this problem yesterday in training and will not be available”.
What do you think about turnover?
“I can’t do without using everyone, I carry this thought forward with the team and I have to be consistent. I have to make everyone grow and keep them at a high level of performance even in training, that’s why I have to make everyone play. I don’t like to call it turnover, I like to think of twenty players who can pass the baton both during the game but also from the beginning with so many important competitions. If you play games with a lot of energy expenditure it’s difficult to maintain three games in a week”.
Will the choice of Castellanos’ replacement be linked to the opponent or to the list issue and the UEFA exclusion of Castrovilli? Will we still see a courageous Lazio even away from home?
“Certainly the fact that we have three away games must give us answers, the team must have the same attitude. We know that playing in front of our fans is extraordinary, but between home and away nothing changes. We must always be the same regardless of the pitch and the result, we are working on this and I expect significant growth. There are two solutions for Taty’s replacement, Pedro and Noslin, one leaves and one will come in”.
Did you expect to play on Saturday since you play in Europe on Wednesday? Is Fiorentina a special match?
“In these situations it’s not a question of getting into controversy, it’s clear that having a few more days is always better. My head is only in the game, however, when I can’t have control over certain things I don’t think about them, I have no control over the calendar so I work on the team. For me it’s a special game regardless, at Fiorentina I went through the entire youth sector and made my debut in Serie A, but there have never been any concrete things as a coach. It’s an important test, I don’t like to think about these personal things, we’re facing a team with an important squad and in front of their fans they’ll want to look for their first win. We’re going there to face this first new test away from home after the good things we’ve done at home”.
Will Lazio always push mainly to the left?
“We have to attack from both sides, in Udine only Lazzari put 13 crosses and with this game system we have to work on the outsides. It is clear that we work with both outsides, when we talked about balance we have to be very good at maintaining it with the midfielders when both full-backs push forward. We are the team that has allowed the fewest entries into the penalty area, we benefit from the high aggression because the fewer entries into the area there are the better it is”.
What role can Castrovilli have in this Lazio?
“For me, Gaetano can work in all the midfield roles, even between the two midfielders. I don’t like to move players who do well in one position and for this reason I don’t want to change Dia, it’s not said that there can’t be changes but I would like to keep Dia in the attacking midfield. We have worked on this solution”.
Do you expect anything more from Romagnoli?
“Alessio is absolutely not in question, as I told you before in view of the matches there could be some variations. He is a player who has reading and personality even in the development phase. At the moment I have many starters and this is the thing I am trying to carry forward with the team and also to send this message outside”.
Is there an owner of the right wing position? How did you see Juric’s arrival at Roma?
“I don’t want to express myself, when a colleague is substituted I always feel sorry. As I have already said, there will be time for the derby, which will be a fundamental match. At the moment we have important players. I would like to bring you this thought, when we talk about balance we need two phases and the players must not think about the 90 minutes, the players must enter the field firing everything and thinking about the 60 minutes. To have balance and compactness, great sacrifice is needed in the two phases. Tchaouna came on well, but Isaksen also played a good game. Loum with Milan paid for the depth of the match, but slowly these things will be sorted out. I have no doubt, having two starters in the same role is important for me. I must get this message across to the team and I will have to be consistent”.
What do you think of your opponent?
“We are the team that has shot the most on goal, it will be a match where there will be the possibility to play because they also attack like us. It will certainly be a spectacular match, I think that there are many situations in Fiorentina because they have energy and quality. We must be very careful on set pieces, they have already scored three goals, they have Biraghi who shoots very well and for this reason we must keep them away. We cannot make a mistake in the performance because it is the first of three away matches and the attitude must be the same”.
How important is it to suffer little to obtain responses at a balanced level?
“When I talk about balance I’m talking about these components, we’ll need great pace and compactness. They have quality between the lines and attack the depth, we’ll have to go fast and we’ll have to be ready to face a team that we’ll have to work with.”
How much will the offensive phase and the cross proposal change without Castellanos?
“It is clear that we are working on three ways of crossing, we will be missing one but we will have two more. In football it is difficult to get into the area, we also work on this. The team has had many offensive solutions, not only with the external attack, we work on this all week and we work mainly on the offensive phase. I simply try to put the team in the conditions to develop their qualities as best as possible. If I have good wingers we have to go to the outside and to score goals we have to fill the area. For us the possible absence of a player will not change anything, even if for us it is fundamental and indispensable. When you work with many offensive players, it is better to keep the opponents away from our goal and for this reason we look for a high aggression in the offensive half of the pitch trying to take away as many defensive runs as possible from our wingers”.
