How Ivan Juric’s Roma will play and what will change under De Rossi’s management

Ivan Juric is the new coach of Roma and he will surely change a lot in terms of tactics and approach by the Giallorossi club. The system will undoubtedly be 3-4-2-1, with a strong reference point, two defensive arms (one who breaks away, the other more blocked), two players in midfield capable of acting both as breakwaters and as re-proposers, two wingers with great skills and two attacking midfielders behind the striker. The alternative is a single man, at the top of the midfield, behind a first and second striker. And Roma’s squad already seems ready for Juric’s game.

The three-man defense and doubts about gaps and starters
In fact, Daniele De Rossi, after Paulo Dybala’s stay in Giallorossi, had already decided not to play with four at the back anymore and the last minute arrivals (overtime…) in defense, Mats Hummels and Mario Hermoso, tell of a change to three already made. It remains to be seen how much Mile Svilar, between the posts, will be similar to Juric’s game, it is certainly not a given because he has always asked for goalkeepers with very specific characteristics (Pandur at Verona and Milinkovic-Savic at Torino were his ideal ‘types’). Behind there is also Gianluca Mancini and with them also Evan Ndicka. Who among them is used to a game with high and constant pressing? No one has ever tried a ‘Gasperinian’ football, even if the latest version of Simeone will certainly help Hermoso a lot.

Hunt for the new Ricci and Ilic and the external puzzle
In midfield his ‘type’ are Ricci and Ilic, two playmakers and interdictors, capable of three and two. Multi-purpose, flexible, versatile, physically solid, tactically precise, technically clean and also capable of verticalizing the game. In this perhaps Bryan Cristante seems ‘slower’ compared to Juric’s playing ideas, it cannot be excluded that in the end he could become the new Tameze continuing to float between the midfield and the midfield. Leandro Paredes has very little verticality, which instead can be found by Enzo Le Fée who in the end could form the median pair. On the wings Angelino seems designed for Juric, on the right it is to be understood whether he will deploy a more containing full-back like Zeki Celik or will try to discover Saud Abdulhamid. And watch out for Nicola Zalewski, if he were to return to the first team, on the left he could represent what Lazaro was in Juric’s last management at Toro but on the other out.

Which big name is left out in front?
And then there are the three-quarters and the attack. Lorenzo Pellegrini seems to represent a certainty also on a tactical level, the one capable of tightening more to the center, of giving space to the forays of the winger, Angelino, who will however have to increase the number of crosses from the outside. On the other side Matias Soulè seems tactically a player that the Croatian coach has already trained in the past while he has never had a Paulo Dybala and it remains to be seen how much space (and in place of whom?) Tommaso Baldanzi will find. As a center forward, few doubts. Artem Dovbyk, like Duvan Zapata.
