During today’s appointment with L’Editoriale on TMW Radio frequencies Marco Piccari spoke. These are his words:
What kind of Bologna did we see against Shakhtar yesterday?
“It didn’t hurt, there are still many things to review in this Bologna. From an offensive point of view they can’t be lethal, but it was the debut in the Champions League against a team to be respected. It was a good start in a competition where Bologna needs to gain experience. Starting with a draw and with some positive things to start from is a good sign”.
Inter held firm in Manchester. What indications come from this Champions League debut?
“When City play the ball quickly, it’s a spectacle and it suffocates you. In the second half, they put Inter under pressure. However, Inzaghi’s team has enormous awareness. It’s true that they defended themselves but I never saw them in too much trouble. It’s not easy to play with a team that becomes difficult to tame when they raise the tempo. Instead, I saw a team that knew how to manage the moments. Inter’s awareness of their own strength should be underlined. It’s impossible to say whether this team can go all the way, but it should undoubtedly be included among the big teams in European football.”
What do you expect from Atalanta-Arsenal?
“I can’t wait to see this match, it will be an open game between two teams that want to play the game openly. It will be a match where we will have fun with a high pace. It’s hard to decipher Atalanta, they may play incredible games and then unexpectedly fall. Then they have a Lookman who is in form and can really make the difference”.
Is there corporate confusion at Roma?
“Yes, and the real question is how much competence is there within the club? At the end of the season you give De Rossi a three-year renewal worth three million and then after four games you send him away? I understand there could be a disagreement between a coach and a manager, but you don’t send De Rossi away after four games. Remembering among other things that he saved your face after Mourinho’s farewell, you took a non-coach given that it was the first big opportunity of his career. You build him the team, you do the retreat and you send him away after four games. You take a completely different coach, does he have the interpreters to play that kind of football? It’s disorientating, you start with Mourinho and get to Juric. In my opinion, the road is being prepared for the sale of the club. Now there will be a strong protest starting on Sunday, I think they could give up given the difficulties in building the stadium”.
In such a warm environment, how can someone with Juric’s character be welcomed?
“In the team you have players like Dybala, Dovbyk, Hummels and Hermoso. De Rossi may not be a great coach, but he is an internationally recognisable figure for his past. Before there was Mourinho, now there is Juric who probably doesn’t know anyone. We get into the players’ heads, it is very different having to deal with Juric rather than De Rossi or Mourinho. Then maybe Juric will wreak havoc and Roma will get great results, but the situation is complicated”.
Is there a problem in the structure of Milan?
“For me the explanation lies in Ibrahimovic’s pre-match. Now it’s too easy to talk about Fonseca, Ibrahimovic’s pre-match is embarrassing, for him and for Milan. A glorious club like Milan cannot be represented like this, it’s embarrassing”.
