Pellegrini: “Inter must win the Champions League. Lautaro will return to his level”

TMW Exclusive

THE’Inter has once again given the impression of being a team capable of annoying anyone even in Europe. The 0-0 at home to Manchester City is yet another demonstration of the quality of Simone Inzaghi’s work, underlined at TMW also from Ernest Pellegriniformer Nerazzurri president: “We are definitely a big team at international level now. I saw the match and we did very well, even though we suffered towards the end. I particularly liked the defensive phase, I’m happy”.

Is there a chance to win the Champions League?
“Inter must win it, we fans believe in it since we came close to it two years ago. This year we are stronger, we were playing with the first in the Premier League, against Guardiola, who is a master, and having managed not to lose, indeed to come close to winning, is a great result”.

What has changed compared to Monza where the team seemed a bit presumptuous?
“Inter have two souls, but these are games where you are hungry for victory, you throw yourself headlong into seeking success. In others, however, it’s true, they are a bit intolerant, but it’s part of their nature.”

Did you like Inzaghi’s choices?
“He convinced me, I have a lot of faith in this coach, I know that if he makes a change he does it with good reason, he doesn’t do it just to show off and show off. Lautaro for example wasn’t well and wasn’t at his best, that’s why he left him out”.

Is there a Lautaro case? Since March he has scored only one goal.
“Absolutely not. I don’t know him very well, but I know him well enough to say that he’s a great guy with his head on his shoulders, he’ll get back to his level.”

Is Thuram the extra weapon?
“He is a great player, he can make and is making the difference. We applaud Marotta who held on to him and strongly wanted him. He is fundamental for this Inter”.

Any thoughts on Sunday’s derby?
“Let’s hope that the saying that the weakest team is the favourite doesn’t apply because today Milan should be the favourite (laughs, ed.)”.
