Conte bids farewell to Schillaci: “He is an emblem for us in the south. At Juve I addressed him formally, so much respect”

The Napoli coach Anthony Conte in his press conference today in view of the big match against Juventus he wanted to remember and say goodbye to his former teammate Toto Schillaciwho passed away yesterday with the funeral taking place tomorrow in Palermo. This is the thought of the Italian coach:

“Before starting the conference I would like to address a thought to Schillaci: at only 59 years of age a footballer and a person, especially for us in the south, who was an emblem, has passed away. He is a person who had made it to the top and for us in the south he was a great example, I am saddened and sorry. I was lucky enough to play with him at Juventus, I was 21 and he was an established footballer. My thoughts go to his family, he was an excellent person”.

A memory or anecdote?
“There are so many… I had just arrived in Turin, I was coming from Lecce, as a person from the south I had a great bond with him who had made himself available. At that moment, when I arrived at Juventus, for me they were all champions. I was so respectful that I didn’t even address them formally, but formally. For me he was an idol even though he was a humble person who immediately made himself available”.
