Capozucca: “Cagliari has taken the right man for the post-Ranieri era. Nicola is charging forward”

The manager Stefano Capozuccaformer sports director of Cagliari among others, had his say on the current situation of the Sardinian club during an interview given to All Cagliari: “The goal of the rossoblù is always to maintain the category. And to do so, after the interlude with Claudio Ranieri, who was a true professor, they took the right man: Davide Nicola. A coach with character and temperament, accustomed to this type of battle. Nicola fits perfectly with the philosophy of Cagliari and, above all, of the Sardinian public, passionate and unyielding in supporting the team in a small and always full stadium, where it is not easy for the opponents to play. There, a coach like Nicola knows how to charge the fans in the stands with buckshot…”.

Objective salvation? With how much suffering expected?
“I would say that suffering should be expected, but the Cagliari squad has the potential to achieve what has always been its objective: reconfirmation of Serie A”.

Should Nicola intervene mainly in the offensive phase?
“I have to say that I watched the match against Napoli and, despite a few defensive lapses, Cagliari absolutely did not deserve such a large deficit. At 0-1 the rossoblù had put the Neapolitans to the test, coming close to scoring the equaliser several times. Then at 0-2 the team gave up and two more goals arrived that ‘inflated’ the result, but Napoli actually suffered and not a little. Of course, a few more goals will have to be scored up front, but there are all the conditions to unlock themselves starting, perhaps, with tomorrow’s match against Empoli: a direct clash of primary importance”.
