One win in the last eleven games: the numbers that led to De Rossi’s dismissal

We often remember how we end, not so much how we begin. This is an unwritten rule in today’s football that all the insiders remember with great emphasis. Because yes, at the beginning everything can be beautiful, almost revolutionary. But then the novelty effect passes and the results remain, especially those of the last few weeks.

Or months, in the case of De Rossi, with a three-year contract signed about three months ago in between, but also just one win in the last eleven games. These are frankly unacceptable numbers for a team that would like, at least in intention, to go to the Champions League. Since April eighteen, when the Friedkins confirmed, DDR has won only two. It was the same day they went through to the next round against Milan, playing an intelligent and no-frills match, a 2-0 without much chance of reply.

“Following a meeting yesterday afternoon with Daniele De Rossi, we are delighted to announce that he will continue as coach of AS Roma beyond the end of this season and for the foreseeable future. In his short tenure as head coach, the positive impact his leadership has had on the entire club has continued the story of his extraordinary history with Roma. […] We couldn’t be happier to build a long-term project with Daniele.”

The report says: 30 games, 14 wins, 9 draws and 7 losses. In the last eleven games, however, 6 draws and 4 losses. In fact, in mid-April the count was simple: 12 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses.
