Fiorentina, three defenders looking for a creator: little space for Pongracic, Parisi and Kayode

Fiorentina is suffering and not a little at the start of this season: the team has not yet won a single official match (excluding the penalty kicks of the second leg of the Conference playoff against the Hungarians Puskas Akademia, which came after another X) and the department that seems to be struggling the most is the defense. The lily’s goal has remained intact in only one of the six matches, the disappointing 0-0 at home against Venezia, and the last defeat, the 3-2 suffered in a comeback in Bergamo, has once again highlighted the shortcomings there.

There are, in the list of defenders available to Palladino, three characters still in search of an author. Or rather, of arrangement. At the beginning of the season, ideas on players like Marin Pongracic, Fabiano Parisi and Michael Kayode were different than the little or no use that all of these people are experiencing.

The first of those mentioned, moreover, is the most expensive player of the last summer market for Fiorentina: the Tuscans paid 15 million euros to Lecce, including bonuses, to secure the Croatian international. The second one, on the other hand, is coming off a first year below expectations in Florence and according to many this was for him the season of consecration and of Biraghi’s baton to collect: the arrival of Gosens has changed the scenario and not by a little. The latter, finally, remained in purple despite the fact that in the summer the likes of Aston Villa and Brentford came forwardready to pay 20 million euros to have him. In the end-of-market press conference, DS Pradè revealed that he had thought about selling him, only to then stop when faced with the idea of how Commisso would react to the news. In order for regret not to take over, there would be a need for greater use and that space that he doesn’t have now. At least he’s not the only one, for now.
