A knockout that hurts: Milan and Fonseca collapse in the Champions League five days before the derby

A worrying defeat, five days before what could be an important crossroads in the season. Milan’s debut in the new Champions League is one to forget: at San Siro Liverpool win 3-1exposing all the limitations and defects – of character, personality and tactics – of Paulo Fonseca’s team.

Yet the match had started in the best possible way, with Pulisic taking the lead after just three minutes. A sudden flashwhich perhaps gave the Rossoneri the illusory belief that they were healed also thanks to the 4-0 win over Venezia in the last round of the championship. The award-winning van Dijk-Konaté duo and the defensive lapses of the “zone” took care of bringing the Devil back to his hell, while waiting to understand if Inter could already represent the end of the line for the Portuguese coach, who in the meantime risks losing Mike Maignan.

Fonseca himself tried to analyse with the maximum clarity the performance of his team but once again he seemed incapable of giving the answers that the fans expect. And so, at the end of the match, the protests of the curve broke out, with the invitation to show the attributes valid – obviously – already for Sunday evening. It will definitely take a different Milan, more courageous, to avoid another defeat.
