Sassuolo’s shooting star challenges Juventus: Ryan Flamingo, PSV’s new linchpin

PSV Eindhoven come into today’s match against Juventus in top form: five wins out of five games played in the current Eredivisie and the feeling that they will be the team to beat. Complicated for everyone, from Ajax of the Italian Francesco Farioli to Feyenoord. Many stars and interesting players in the squad of the club owned by Philips, among them also a… Meteor of Italian football. Who remembers Ryan Flamingo? Few, if not around Sassuolo and not even in the first team. Because in Italy he never made his debut among the big ones and yet he was part of the youth team of the Mapei club.

Sassuolo return leg
On the last day of the winter transfer window of the 2020/2021 season, Sassuolo brings home Ryan Flamingo. The 2002-born player arrives in black and green on loan with an option to buy, then in the summer Sassuolo decides to buy him. “Continue in Sassuolo or return to Holland? I’ll decide based on instinct”, he said a year later, a year of youth teams and benches among the big names. Instinct and destiny brought him to Vitesse on loan, immediately making his debut among the professionals, then another loan to Utrecht who then decides to buy him. Last summer, here is PSV: five years of contract and a whopping 9 million to Utrecht.

Who is Flamingo?
Dutch Under 21 national team, he is a central defender with great technical qualities. He plays in the center of defense but can also act as a midfielder, well built physically, the 2002-born player knows how to make himself heard even in the opponent’s area and despite his 183 centimeters he is also very skilled on high balls. Central in the game and in the counterattacks from the bottom of the Eindhoven team, at the beginning of this season he has formed a fixed pair with the Frenchman from Nice, Olivier Boscagli, in the center of the defense. And in five games PSV has conceded only three goals (scoring twenty!), a sign that the rear hinge works very well.
