Milan report cards – Pulisic deceives, Leao unjustifiably absent. Derby already decisive for Fonseca

Final result: Milan-Liverpool 1-3

Maignan 6 – A difficult performance to evaluate. He stops twice due to physical problems in the first half but stays on the pitch. The opposing centre-backs take advantage of his less than optimal conditions and exploit two free kicks to punish him. He is a bit responsible for Konaté’s goal, he raises the white flag at the start of the second half after a great save. From 51′ Torrians 6 – He can do nothing about the counterattack finished by Szoboszlai, he is attentive on the other occasions in which he is called into action.

Calabria 5 – He returns to the field, Fonseca gives him a starting shirt but he continues not to convince. In his area Gakpo and Tsimikas do almost what they want. Definitely involuted. From 70′ Emerson 5 – He gets practically everything wrong, bringing San Siro to exasperation. His entrance is the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Tomorrow 6 – Some good closings but he is still a distant relative of the Tomori version of the Scudetto. Jota creates more than a few headaches for him, on the goal of 1-1 he could have done better. All in all he is one of the best, and this says a lot about the overall performance of the team. From 84′ Gabbia sv

Pavlovic 5 – Salah is the first real test for the Serbian defender and the challenge is won by the Egyptian. Always in difficulty when Liverpool speed up, he practically lags behind everyone.

Theo Hernandez 5 – Too shy, blocked by Liverpool’s defensive attitude that pays great attention to Milan’s left lane. In the first half he is never seen and suffers Salah, in the second half he is more lively and also tries to conclude. Too little.

Loftus-Cheek 4.5 – The English midfielder fails to be decisive against a team he knows well. He is seen very little and does not help in the moments of greatest difficulty, a ghost. From 70′ Abraham 6 – Twenty minutes as a lion, fighting practically alone against everyone in the midst of general despair.

Fomana 5 – Often caught in the middle by the opposing attacking midfielders and midfielders, pressed at the start of the action, not very reactive in general. He also has to limit himself physically because he was cautioned in the first half.

Reijnders 6 – The only one in the Rossoneri midfield to bring some ideas, as often happens. A few flashes, but then he is not very lucid when it comes to the discharge or the conclusion.

Pulisic 5.5 – Off and running, he drives San Siro crazy with one of his flashes. A run down the right and an uncatchable diagonal for Alisson. Unfortunately, it remains the only flash in an impalpable performance.

Morata 5 – The layoff for Pulisic is the most beautiful play – the only one – of his anonymous first half. In the second half he claims a penalty, then fades away. From 84′ Okafor sv

Leao 5 – In the first 45′ he is practically absent, even if his teammates really struggle to find him due to the excellent defensive set-up of the opponents. Everyone hoped that the solitary sprint in the final could be the prelude to a second half as a protagonist, but the only thrill he gives is at the end of the game when he hits the crossbar.

Paulo Fonseca 5 – A confidence boost was needed ahead of the derby and the first Champions League match of the season couldn’t have started in the best way. In the long run, however, worrying character and personality limitations emerge. A contested team, is the derby already a last resort?
