Jean–Mark Furlan had been dismissed for just cause by Auxerre in October 2022 and had asked the labor court for nearly 1.5 million euros in compensation for the termination of the contract. However, the Court ruled today and found that the dismissal was justified.
Furlan, at the end of the match played on October 9, 2022, had shown the middle finger to the Clermont-Ferrand fans. For this reason, Auxerre had immediately condemned his behavior and then removed him from office. According to the French press, all his requests were denied; the 66-year-old will now have a month to appeal.
This decision is in any case “a satisfaction” for Auxerre, as the club’s lawyer declared upon leaving the Court. Furlan arrived at Auxerre in 2019, allowing the team to return to Ligue 1 at the end of the 2021-2022 season. His last experience was on the bench of Caen, from which he was fired after a few months. “After my dismissal from Auxerre, it was particularly difficult. There are no explanations”, he confided in an interview with RMC Sports one year ago.
