Turin, Vanoli: “Objectives? The first is to become a team and have an identity”

Mister’s Torino Paul Vanoli is ready to return to the field when the championship resumes after the first three games in which he has collected 7 points. Two wins and a draw – in addition to the top of the table with Inter, Juventus and Udinese – for the Granata team, awaiting the home game against Lecce on Sunday. In the meantime, Vanoli himself has given a long interview to the channel Youtube of the Serie A League: “What convinced me? Toro is history. I said yes for the emotion and pride of being able to wear and lead this great club that has a very important history”.

Superga? “I got goosebumps. Since I became a professional player I’ve been told about this magical place. To do great things you have to know the history of the club and my first thought was to visit this place to understand what Toro was. When I went up to Superga I was speechless”.

Fans? “You could see in the first game of the championship but also in the retreat how important they are. I have to be good at uniting because I think the fans, especially those of Toro, have something more. And all together we have to be able to have something more to become something unique. My first goal is to give my own identity, a philosophy of play: we are in a process, processes are long and patience is needed but the boys are putting in the effort.

Shoe? “When I choose the captain, I do it by finding someone who represents the club in all respects. The captain must represent his teammates and Zapata does it well. He has the experience and the right maturity to wear this armband which is very important in Turin”.

Coco and Adams? “Great impression, they immediately integrated into the group in a completely different football philosophy. They are learning and growing, they can give us a lot”.

The young people? “I don’t like to name names, I congratulate everyone because they presented themselves very well in the retreat. The history of Toro starts right from the youth sector, where great players have come out. I hope to have the luck and the opportunity that some of these guys, the last of them Buongiorno, can appear in the first team”.

Objective? “We need to have a fairly close time goal: to become a team and have an identity. The continuation of the goals will be seen later, now let’s focus on this. But when I start a new job, I always dream and I do it big. Within a month I want every player to dream, then slowly the dream must be realized”.

Spartak Moscow? “A strong and unforgettable experience, it will be part of my history. It was my first experience, then after two months the war broke out. The worst thing that could happen in the world happened, it goes beyond the world of sports. It is an experience that has marked me, my collaborators, players and my family, being far away it was not easy”.

Model coaches? “In football you need to know how to do both phases and do them well. I was lucky enough to have great coaches in my apprenticeship, first and foremost Sacchi who changed football and showed me what it means to be obsessive about work. Then I was lucky enough to work with another great coach like Conte, who won a lot and taught me what it means to be a manager and manage a group. It’s a great fortune that I have in my repertoire”.
