Matthew Calamaia midfielder who in his career has worn the shirts of, among others, Cosenza, Picerno, Lumezzane, Legnago and Carpi, spoke to the microphones of TMW Radio during the broadcast All C:
Have you already made up your mind about this Serie C championship?
“As in recent years, Serie C is proving to be an exciting championship full of surprises. There are teams that have made history and others that perhaps have less, but are still carving out a leading role for themselves. Among these is a former team of mine, Picerno, who is doing great things. They have been doing well for years, also thanks to the work of director Greco, who deserves to be congratulated. In Group A, Renate got off to a great start, although they may not have been among the favorites, but they are doing their job. Finally, in Group B I saw a very positive Carpi, but I also like Pianese, who are also doing well in Serie C”.
You who have been to Picerno, can you confirm that it is a place where you can work well?
“It is a club that has started to plan very seriously since it became a professional club. The ownership is solid and seeks a connection with the territory. In recent years, many players have changed, but the work of director Greco is clear for all to see. Together with the technical staff, they are doing important things. They are no longer a surprise, but rather an important reality in Serie C. It is too early to say whether they will be able to fight for promotion all year, but I see them in the running for the play-off zone”.
Also among your former teams is Lumezzane, who have confirmed that they can do well in Serie C. How do you see them?
“They had a positive start, but given the transfer market they did, I think they can do even better. They changed a lot of players, but there’s a club that’s doing well there too. They have the will to grow year after year, but they already have the quality in the squad to have a great championship.”
Legnago, on the other hand, didn’t start very well, although Gastaldello is not yet in question. What do you think?
“Here too we are talking about a very healthy club, which has shown it knows how to do well in this category. In this case a cycle has ended and starting a new one is always an unknown, Donati had done a splendid job. Now it will take a few more games to draw some conclusions, but the club has shown it knows how to do well, I believe they will be able to fight for a peaceful salvation”.
