TMW Radio
Enrico Barilaritechnician of the Sorrentospoke to TMW Radio during the broadcast ‘A Tutta C’ to talk about the excellent start to the season of the Campania club:
How are you experiencing this beginning of your adventure in Sorrento?
“The start was good, maybe we even got more than we did. At the beginning it was a bit like Bisio in Welcome to the South, I experienced a fantastic welcome. But then there is also the work part and this is a perfect environment for playing football. Unfortunately, we always play away, and last year the players who were here told me that for this very reason they arrived tired at the end of the year. However, the club is close to us in everything to ensure that there are no other problems”.
Is the goal salvation?
“Yes, there have been too many examples of teams that started well but then went down the drain. Now we have to keep our feet on the ground, also because in October we will have a very tough schedule. We will have to try to get as many points as possible because thirty-eight matchdays is a lot”.
The only group without teams with full points is the southern one. What do you think of Group C?
“On an individual level there are excellent players. There are many players who are beyond this category, also because there are many clubs that can afford important salaries. Individuals make the difference more than in other groups”.
Do you expect a team that can dominate the championship?
“I see Catania above all, also because of the great fear I have of mister Toscano. I have not yet met Cerignola, which is a team full of values, while Monopoli and Picerno have made a great impression on me. After that I think that the big teams do well not to hide with ambitions, only that in the end only one wins”.
In your group there is Juventus Next-Gen. What do you expect from the Bianconeri and in general from the second team project?
“I expect Juventus to find its balance soon. Last year it was at the bottom, while then it ended up in the play-offs. There are many quality guys and some who were used in the first team will also return to be protagonists in C. The U-23 project is of great value, I am certainly not against this project. They create value and interest for the championship”.
Do you see any important guys in your group?
“Yes, I see quite a few and I struggle to name names. However, we also found a really good 2008 here in Sorrento who made his debut in the Cup and who has already gained experience with the first team. Then there are some slightly older players who bring a vital freshness to this group and this category. I see that there are more and more clubs with a high level of playing time for young players, we are already on the right track. It is clear that clubs that fight to win pay less attention to this aspect, but that is normal”.
What struck you about the other groups?
“In Group A, the newly promoted teams started off strong, as did Renate. I think that Vicenza and Padova will be there to fight for promotion. In Group B, all the big teams are somewhat structurally behind, while I can’t wish my Sestri the best of luck. They didn’t start off very well, but last year we also had difficulties and then we climbed back up”.
Now what trip awaits you in Potenza?
“It’s a test of maturity, we’ve had a week full of praise. It’s the first game a little closer together, so there were also a few less days to prepare for it. I’ve seen them and they play very well, they’re also at the top of the expected goals rankings. They play football and produce. I’m afraid of this away game, they have good values, but we know that there are no easy games”.
