Bruno Fernandes, at eighteen he dreamed of the Premier League. Not so big

Anyone who saw him in Novara in his first weeks always says the same thing. That is, how Bruno Fernandes had nothing to do with the category for which he was taken, that is, the Primavera. Arriving from Boavista at eighteen, he immediately had an impact on Italian football, winning the Serie B playoffs in his first year, when the feeling was that Novara was destined more for an anonymous championship than for climbing the rankings.

The hope was to get to the Premier League. Few would have thought, however, that Bruno Fernandes could grow in such a vertical way, even if not in Italy. Because despite the many interests, including those of Milan and Juventus, in the end he moved to Udinese – for three seasons, decent – then he was sold to Sampdoria. A year there, then the return to his homeland, but through the main door to Sporting Lisbon. From there the explosion until he became the captain of Manchester United.

This was his prophecy years ago, in an interview. “I came to Italy to play in Serie B, of course I didn’t expect to leave the Primavera so soon, but I know what I can do and what my means are. I’m happy with the welcome I’ve had from the city and the fans. I still have a lot to do to deserve all the affection I receive every day. Comparison with Pastore? It seems like an exaggerated comparison. I see myself in the Premier League, which is the most beautiful championship, for the stadiums, for the fans. Or why not, in Real Madrid, which is the team of my dreams”. Good start. Today Bruno Fernandes turns 30.
