Empoli, Gyasi: “In Ghana I played without shoes, it helped me get to Serie A”

Emmanuel Gyasi tells his story. The Empoli winger, in an interview with the official channels of the Lega Serie A, reveals his past: “My story is very important to me because I was born in Italy, at 4 years old I went to Ghana because my grandparents lived there. I went to see where I came from, the culture, my roots. And this is very important to me, it helped me a lot to grow as a person and as a human being because it is positive to see where you come from and go there to your grandparents. I learned a lot and when I returned to Italy I felt more formed as a man.

When I look back I am proud, I am very proud of this journey that I am still living. I look back and I am proud because when I started we played without shoes, while now I am playing in a big league like Serie A. When I was in Ghana and when I was with many young players, with my friends, and we went to play without shoes. We were still happy, simply because we were playing football. And this is something that improves you as a footballer and as a person. This is the most important thing. Every time I am in a big stadium I look back because this is what made me the person I am today”.
