In his long interview with ESPN the goalkeeper of Milan and France Mike Maignan he also spoke about the topic of racism and his private life once the playing shoes and gloves are removed. These are the words of the AC Milan player:
Which colleague do you look up to?
“Honestly, I won’t go into too much detail, I really like Neuer. He’s great, he’s completely changed the way of playing the role. But he can also make mistakes, like in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, and yet this doesn’t change anything, because we all make mistakes, but in the end it’s how you react to them. And, I think, that even if the end of the game was near, his mistake, for a young goalkeeper like me, and for the others who are even younger, will serve to say: “Even the best make mistakes”. May this therefore be an incentive to continue despite our mistakes”.
How complicated is it to be famous and well-known?
“It’s hard, because I would like to live the same life as before but today, but it doesn’t work. Before I wasn’t in the spotlight, I didn’t have all this money, no hassles, I lived a simple life. I didn’t have to check myself left and right all the time. It would be nice to walk around my city without anyone noticing me. Then there’s another thing: if you’re strong, you don’t live for other people, but for yourself, your values, according to your principles and you know what you have to do. People can write what they want, but they shouldn’t influence you, they can’t make you let go, because you know why you’re there. You know what you’re doing. So the haters can write again and again and again, but as long as we have strong principles and we stay strong and focused on what we want to do, they can continue to say and write what they want.”
