Fabrizio Coursespresident and patron of Empoli, spoke to the Tyrrhenian of the excellent start to the season of the Azzurri team: “It was difficult to hope for a start to the championship like this – the president underlines – now we must take the best of what it brings and entails, leaving aside the worst. The next match? The fact that Juventus is there will lead us to give 105%, all of us, to try to make a good impression. It will be a beautiful day of sport, another celebration for our city, and we hope to honor it in the best way possible”.
What does that mean?
“That we cannot afford the luxury of not only giving up but even just loosening our grip. Indeed, this is the moment to step on the accelerator, to give even more. And, let’s be clear, this is a discussion that concerns everyone but starts with us managers”.
Is it even stranger to think that this good start is the result of a market in which Empoli spent zero?
“Our market did not close at zero, it closed with a positive sign of 10.5 million. But even in this case, as for the team on the pitch, we must think that we can and must do better. The numbers, just to be clear, say that we should have closed it at +16”.
So you are not satisfied with the latest market?
“No, I am. I am because we have taken important steps towards economic sustainability, which as I had the opportunity to say months ago is the fundamental component to guarantee our future, but also because we have built a young team and there is room to continue working well from all points of view. I do not hide the fact that precisely in this dual perspective of performance and prospects we have also rejected some offers for our players. One even interesting, but not entirely satisfactory, in the last few days”.
