Inter-Milan, the first derby between US-owned clubs will be a record-breaking one: over 7 million in takings

Yesterday the Lega Serie A announced that the derby Inter – Milan will be played on Sunday 22nd September at 20.45. An event eagerly awaited by both sets of fans, but also by the clubs, given that it will allow Inter to register a record takings in this case. As reported by Sports GazetteSan Siro is ready to fill up, and there is a strong possibility that this first derby of the 2024/25 season will become the highest-grossing match in Serie A history.

The numbers
The goal is to exceed 7 million euros, beating the record of 6.6 million set by Inter-Juventus in October 2019. An increase in prices will also influence these figures: an increase that, in the Champions League, has already allowed Inter to exceed the threshold of 10 million euros in revenue, as in the second leg of the semi-final against Milan in 2023 (12.4 million, an absolute record), or to get close to it, as in the 9.2 million of the round of 16 against Atletico Madrid last February.

It will also be the first derby between Americans after the Nerazzurri’s move to Oaktree, given the origins of the two investment funds that manage the clubs. Ticket sales began on August 29, with an initial phase dedicated to season ticket holders of the second blue ring; then it was the turn of season ticket holders with the plus rate and members of Inter clubs. From today, however, tickets are available for holders of the “Siamo Noi” card, until September 11. From the 12th, tickets will be available for purchase by the general public, although it is expected that it will be difficult to reach that stage. In order to respect the numbers of San Siro, which show how Inter has now been travelling for two seasons with an average of 72 thousand fans per match and which guarantees the club annual revenues from the stadium that reach 100 million euros gross.
