The UEFA Champions League’s all-time top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, now takes to the stage to receive an award for his extraordinarily prolific output in front of goal. “When we think of football, we think of Cristiano,” begins Čeferin. “Football and our lives are governed by memories,” says Ronaldo, calling the UEFA Champions League “special” and speaking of the motivation that comes from listening to the competition’s anthem.

Gianluigi Buffon has just taken the stage to receive his award. “Personally, Gigi is the best goalkeeper in history,” says Čeferin. “Without a shadow of a doubt, the Champions League is the most important competition in football,” replies Buffon, winner of the UEFA Champions League President’s Award.

All 36 teams will be drawn manually using physical balls. For each manually drawn team, designated automated software will randomly draw eight opponents into the four containers, which will be revealed on screen in the drawing room and on television. The software will also decide which games will be home and away.
