There are now nine days left until the start of the 2024-2025 Serie C championshipbut the official season, with the category’s Italian Cup, has already started: the Second Eliminatory Round will be played between Saturday and Sunday.
But how does Serie C get to this championship?
The summer was quieter than expected, and especially than in other years, when appeals and counter-appeals led to calendars with X and Y waiting to know the actual participants, postponements of the start of the championship, penalties; of course, those will almost certainly be at the starting line, but it is also true that in July the calendars were drawn up without any problems, with the staff defined and also with the arrival of the third B Team, Milan Futuro, inserted in Group B and fished out in place of Anconafirst shock of this hot summer.
In fact, June 4th was a disastrous date for the Doric people, because the club was in fact in a state of collapse that then led to the failure to register in Serie C, with the application submitted incomplete and rejected by Covisoc; a situation that sent the relegated Recanatese into a rage, which could have enjoyed readmission if the red and white club had not submitted an application for registration. Curiosity, the two teams will meet in the first match of Serie D, that of the Coppa Italia.
But let’s go back to the penalties chapter, why Taranto should start with -6due to late payment of salaries and contributions. And repeat offender. Among other things, after Massimo Giove’s withdrawal (following the Mediterranean Games affair and more precisely the renovation of the ‘Erasmo Iacovone’ stadium which cannot be used by the team for the renovation), there has been a general stampede at the rossoblù, which has also led to a paradoxical situation with mister Eziolino Capuano, who will soon be fired: the coach has not shown up at the pitch for about ten days now, covered by the medical certificate, the General Manager Fabrizio Lucchese – called to ferry the club – is looking for a replacement.
In Group C, however, there were two other situations that kept us in suspense, those linked to the additional guarantees of Catania and Turriswhich have slowed down the market, especially for the Etna team which – despite an excellent transfer campaign – has not yet been able to fully enjoy the additions to the squad. However, these do not seem to be situations destined to fester.
Serie C 2024-25 can therefore start off with peace of mind.
