Sule: “Now I’m a version 2.0. Last season was a disaster, I had to change”

First he lost his starting place at Borussia Dortmund, then he was not called up by Julian Nagelsmann for the European Championship. Last season was totally forgettable for Niklas Sule: while the yellow and blacks were playing for the Champions League, the German defender was struggling with a form that was not up to the standard of a professional player.

And so, after much criticism, he decided to turn to specialists: “Mentally I couldn’t do the right things. I couldn’t motivate myself anymore,” he said in an interview with Sport1 . “I wanted to, but I couldn’t. It was a shitty season; fortunately things in my private life were going well, everything was and is in perfect order. Finally, after several conversations, I got help.”

The failure to be called up: “I didn’t deserve to be nominated. The decision was completely understandable and there’s nothing wrong with it. Getting back into shape and losing at least eight kilograms was necessary after a year that I personally couldn’t be happy with at all, in which I fell far short of my expectations. I created something like a Niklas Süle 2.0, changing my diet. Now I’m mentally in a state that I haven’t been in for a long time.”
