Rome, hear Villar: “De Rossi would have given me a chance. I dream of returning to the Giallorossi”

Gonzalo Villar, Granada midfielder, gave a long interview to gianlucadimarzio.com. Among the many topics touched upon, the Spaniard talks about his past in Giallorossi and the new Milan coach Paulo Fonseca:

The past at Roma?
“They have been two important years, I often think about them. I have become a Giallorossi fan: I always watch the games and I hope that this season can achieve great results. It’s a shame, because I think De Rossi would have given me a chance to start again. We have spoken several times recently. I told him that I would have been happy to work with him, and he said the same about me, he would have liked to have me in the squad. He has some great ideas about football, I’m sure he will become a great coach”.

The 2020/2021 season with Fonseca?
“I felt very good, on the pitch I repaid the trust, so much, that the coach gave me. I played carefree and with a smile. With Mkhitaryan, Pellegrini and Veretout, in the middle we had fun. We missed a few victories against the big teams, it’s a shame we didn’t beat United in the Europa League semi-final. But it remains a great memory”.

Fonseca to Milan?
“With him, Milan gets a good coach. Not just a name, but a true football man. I wish him well, but from the bottom of my heart I hope that Roma can reach even higher than his Milan.”

A dream of yours?

“From my heart I feel like saying go back to Rome: at the highest point of my growth the path was cut short. I hope to be able to reopen that page one day, I feel I still have a lot to say”.
