“Many people in Europe don’t understand my decision, but it’s a personal decision. It’s a decision dictated by my passion for football.” So Martin Braithwaite explains his choice to continue his career in Brazil, at Gremio. The former Barcelona player seemed to be one step away from Olympiacos, but on July 23rd he was made official as a new striker for the green and gold club.
During the presentation press conference, the Dane spoke as follows: “I am a person who does everything with passion. I want to live this experience, but for me it is not just an experience. I think it is the most beautiful stage of my career: here I can fight for titles, do something great. I am not here on vacation, I am here to win titles and, of course, score goals”, he promised.
Everything suggested an agreement was coming with Olympiakos, but the situation was overturned with the statement issued by the Brazilian club. “Gremio reaches an agreement for the signing of Danish centre-forward Martin Braithwaite” – reads a post published on the Carioca club’s Instagram profile – “the athlete will come to Porto Alegre in the next few days to undergo medical examinations and sign a contract”.
