The president of the Palermo, Dario Mirrispoke in an interview with La Repubblica (Palermo edition), in which he stopped to talk about the grid that is taking shape for next year’s Serie B, as well as the hot topics at the Rosanero house.
What is the grid of favourites for Serie A?
“Cremonese and Sassuolo are ahead of everyone. Then Palermo, Samp, Pisa, Brescia and Frosinone. It will be a great fight. We cannot buy Messi, go to Serie A and then be relegated or even go bankrupt. It would mean destroying Palermo. We must go to Serie A and at the same time build the future of the club on solid and lasting foundations. Ferran Soriano wrote a book entitled: ‘Il Pallone non ruota mai per caso’. Well, I tell you that Palermo will not go to Serie A by chance”.
What do you think about the Brunori affair?
“Brunori is a boy with extraordinary sensitivity. His behavior is dictated exactly by what is in his heart. If he had been a more cunning person he would have said something else. But he is transparent and I appreciate him for this. In these two months he has been sick and what we felt was the fruit of his enormous sensitivity. He said something at the wrong time. I do not judge whether it was right or wrong. That was a moment of suffering for everyone. He exposed himself out of excessive generosity. He feels the shirt much more than many others who beat their hand on their chest. In that moment full of anger he said something that was misinterpreted. We risked losing a wonderful love story because he felt misunderstood”.
De Sanctis and Dionisi?
“They are two people I have had the opportunity to know and appreciate. From a professional point of view their curriculum speaks for itself, but what impressed me is their desire to win in Palermo. Dionisi, despite the good things he has already done in his career, has the determination to grow in an environment that plays football at the highest levels. Palermo is absolute excellence and they are very convinced of the choice they made”
Is Serie A the goal for this season?
“The goal is to improve the quality of performances. The mistakes of the past must help us improve. We cannot finish sixth again at the end of the regular season but we must improve our position”.
So in A?
“The problem is expectations. The City Football Group came to Palermo to take it to Serie A. And I’m sure this will happen. But there is the time variable. We wanted to go straight away, in the first year, but it doesn’t just depend on us. Everyone wants to win and we will fight with the others. Looking back in time, in the 70s Palermo went thirty years without going to Serie A. I can tell you with certainty that the CFG will take us back to Serie A but we have to do it with a sustainable project”.
