Grealish vents: ‘Rejected from Euros? The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in my career’

Jack Grealish has spilled the beans. The 28-year-old Manchester City left winger, during an interview given to BBCtook the opportunity to publicly vent about the bad blow he suffered at the end of the season, close to the adventure at the Europeans of Germany. When Gareth Southgate chose to exclude the former Aston Villa player from the squad list for theEngland“the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in my career.”

The admission. “When you’re on holiday, every time you turn on your phone or the TV you see it (Euro 2024), so it was hard not to see it,” said Grealish, who has 36 caps for England. He continued: “I’ll be honest, from a footballing point of view it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through in terms of my career. It was heartbreaking. For myself now, I’ve just got to try and use that as motivation for the current season.”

A suffering. Since joining City for a world-record €117.5m in August 2021, he had played for England in the Euro 2021 final against Italy – which they lost at Wembley – a month earlier. This time, however, Grealish did not take part in the expedition to Germany, missing the final match against Spain in Berlin: “I felt I should have been part of the team (England, ed.). I feel I offer something different to the England players. But it is what it is… As I said, it was the most difficult time for me as a footballer. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my career,” he concluded.
