On 26 July 2006, Inter won their fourteenth Scudetto. He does it on the table, because the Calciopoli cyclone is hitting Italy. Juventus will be sent to Serie B, Milan penalized by 30 points for the previous season: therefore no victory in Serie A, but fourth place and the possibility of playing for the Champions League with the preliminaries. Incredibly at the end of the season he will lift the Cup. It will be nicknamed, by its detractors, the “Cardboard Scudetto”.
This is the note published by the Italian Football Federation at the time. “The Extraordinary Commissioner Guido Rossi – it is written – has decided to abide by the conclusions of the opinion and that there are no reasons for the adoption of measures for the non-assignment of the title of Italian champion for 2005-06 to the team classified first at the end of the disciplinary judgments”. The study of the case had been delegated to a committee of three wise men such as Gerhard Aigner, Massimo Coccia and Roberto Pardolesi. Guido Rossi, before being appointed Extraordinary Commissioner of the Federation, had been a member of the Board of Directors of Inter from 1995 to 1999.
The news also reached Massimo Moratti, Inter president, who declared, with great pleasure, that he accepted the assignment. “I am completely satisfied with the awarding of the title to the club and the team that behaved correctly.”
