“Next year’s Fiorentina? Pongracic was one of the best defenders in the league last year, Kean has arrived and other top players will arrive. With Palladino it will be a good Fiorentina and it will improve on what it did with Italiano, who did great things anyway. We need to start again from the finals, lost yes, but they gave awareness”. This is what the former striker of – among others – Fiorentina and Lecce, Valeri Bojinov, told TuttoMercatoWeb.com.
Fiorentina has gone from Italiano to Palladino. How do you see this handover?
“Two young, strong, well-prepared coaches with different ideas. Palladino is an intelligent guy, he knows that Italiano has worked well and he will have to try to improve the team even more.”
Meanwhile, Corvino continues to churn out capital gains in Lecce.
“The Director is always a certainty. He buys unknown players and then makes big capital gains when they become established. Then it’s his home, he becomes deadly”.
What kind of Serie A will it be?
“It will be a very balanced championship. Inter, Napoli, then Atalanta with a few tweaks could be the surprise of this year. Gasperini’s work is there for all to see. If the other cars have nine gears, he has ten. Atalanta could be a big surprise up there”.
And you? What are you doing today?
“I was a commentator for the European Championships. I’m getting my UEFA A license, I took the course at Coverciano to become a sports director. Let’s see…”
Italy had a really hard time at the European Championships.
“There were players who could have been called up. I don’t want to judge Spalletti, he’s a great coach. But Italy certainly struggled up front. And something different could have been chosen. Even if there are no longer any points of reference, once players were called up from the big Italian clubs. Today the big Italian clubs have few Italians”.
The attackers are missing…
“It’s a problem. Especially with a view to the future. Once upon a time, Lippi had to decide who to call among the many, today there aren’t any.”
What’s next for him?
“In the meantime, I’d like to do something on TV as a commentator, maybe on Sky, to compete with myself and continue to improve. When we finish playing, we think we know everything, but that’s not the case. There are different dynamics, times and ways.”
