The long-awaited news at Real Madrid has arrived: Luka Modric has renewed his contract for another season. The Madrid club announced the extension until June 2025. Here is the official statement: “Real Madrid CF and Luka Modrić have agreed to extend the captain’s contract, which will remain with the club until June 30, 2025.
With this renewal, Modric will surpass Puskas and become the oldest in the club’s entire history. Puskas played a Cup match for Real Madrid at the age of 39 years and 36 days (against Betis, in 1966), a threshold that Modric will surpass if he plays from October 17.
Modrić arrived at Real Madrid in 2012 and in his twelve seasons defending our jersey he became a legend of Real Madrid and world football. With Real Madrid he won 26 titles: 6 Champions League, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Leagues, 2 Copa del Rey and 5 Spanish Super Cups. Modrić is one of the five players who have managed to win 6 European Cups and holds the most titles in the history of our club.
On an individual level, Modrić won the 2018 Ballon d’Or, the FIFA Best Player award and was named UEFA Player of the Year. He was a member of the FIFA FIFPro World XI on 6 occasions and was named the Champions League’s Best Midfielder twice. He won the Ballon d’Or once and the Silver Ball once at the Club World Cup. With the Croatian national team, he won the Ballon d’Or at the 2018 World Cup and the Bronze Ball at the 2022 World Cup. Modrić has played 534 matches for our team, scoring 39 goals, and is a Croatian international, playing 178 matches and holding the all-time appearance record.”
Modric – reports the online edition of As – has accepted a significant reduction in salary, making himself available and proving once again that the team is more important than the individual. He will compete for a place in a midfield of diamonds among the strongest ever seen: Tchouameni, Camavinga, Valverde, Bellingham, Ceballos, Güler. And Modric, of course. Who will live his first post-Kroos season, as the last of the Holy Trinidad already an orphan of Casemiro for some time.
