Italy, Linari: “The group could have been scary, but we won it. And there is some regret”

The central defender and captain of Italy Elena Linari spoke to the official channels of the FIGC after the 4-0 victory over Finland that allowed the Azzurre to earn the pass for the next European Championship: “It’s always a great pleasure to see so many girls who are passionate about this sport and about us, it gives us so much spirit and desire to do even better, a stimulus to give our best because we are an inspiration for all of them. We must also always set an example”.

Then there was the group win: “Probably at the draw, seeing Norway, Finland and the Netherlands, this team here could have instilled a bit of fear even though we had faced Spain and Sweden in the Nations League. However, there is a bit of regret because with the Scandinavian teams we brought two important results, two draws, but we would have liked to do more and get a victory that would have allowed us to manage the qualification even better. But that’s fine, celebrating as the top of the group in front of our fans”.

Linari then focuses on the new course of Andrea Soncin: “He really gave us so much, he believed in all of us, in the group, in the team and he tried to make all the players stand out at their best. We really owe him so much and then there are the girls who surprise us every time. With this unity and compactness of the team we can really write new pages”.
