Gabigol returns to Italy? Fiorentina and Bologna are thinking about it. Waiting for the TAS ruling

TMW

The future of Gabigol could be in Italy. After his first, disappointing, experience in Serie A with Inter, with just ten appearances between the league and the Coppa Italia and only one goal scored, the Brazilian striker is ready to try his luck again in Europe, and according to what was gathered by the editorial staff of TMW there are two hypotheses that could materialize during this summer. In fact, both Fiorentina and Bologna are on his trail, who are sniffing out a potential deal, given that the player’s contract with Flamengo expires on December 31st.

The request of the Brazilians.
The Carioca club therefore risks losing Gabriel Barbosa for free, given that there are no negotiations for the renewal, and for this reason they would prefer to sell him now to cash in, with the amount requested for the former Nerazzurri player being around 5 million euros. A bargain, given that in the five years in which he wore the Flamengo jersey he scored 153 goals in 268 appearances, a sign of significant growth compared to the past, with his arrival in Europe in 2016 perhaps having occurred too early.

Disqualification tile.
In all of this, before striking the blow, the two Italian clubs will have to wait for the outcome of the final ruling from the TAS in Lausanne, given that Gabigol had been banned for 24 months for “attempted fraud” during a surprise doping test, carried out in Rio at the club’s headquarters in April 2023. Two and a half months ago, however, the same TAS issued an order that accepted the request to suspend the execution of the contested decision, presented by the player. Consequently, the 24-month suspension imposed on Gabriel Barbosa Almeida has been suspended until the conclusion of the TAS arbitration. The final decision is expected shortly and if the ban were to be completely eliminated, the doors of Serie A could really open for Gabigol, for the second time in his career.
