Calafiori at Arsenal is on standby for the tug of war between Bologna and Basel: the latest

The ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ on newsstands today takes stock of the negotiations for the transfer of the national team defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna to Arsenal. The offer of the Gunners of forty million euros plus five in bonuses presented by the Gunners would also be good for the Emilian club but – we read – the problem is in the percentage to be paid to Basel, set a year ago at 50% in addition to the money already spent to buy his registration. The Emilian club would like to lower this figure, making use of the work done in the last season that allowed them to reach certain figures. But the Swiss club, strong in a signed contract, is not giving in for now.

Bologna and Basel are staging a real tug of war on the issue and have not spoken for five days. In all this Calafiori will leave for retreat with the team, but the new coach knows he cannot count on him. And the club knows it must speed up for a replacement.

The favourite to replace Calafiori is Mats Hummels, released after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired. He is liked because he brings experience, but his salary will have to be discussed. There are also many alternatives: Jaka Bijol (25), a Slovenian from Udinese. And then Sinaly Diomandé from Lyon and Logan Costa, 2001, from Toulouse.
