Born in Sao Paulo in 1987, he grew up in the youth sector of Gremio Barueri, and after a brief stint at International Porto Alegre, he began his adventure in Holland at 19: between 2007 and 2011 he wore the jersey of Pec Zwolle 140 times, immediately showing his qualities as a goalscorer with 10 goals. Two seasons followed at NAC Breda and two at Groningen (in total 151 appearances, 12 goals and 11 assists) before moving to Feyenoord, a club of which he soon became captain and leader: in six seasons he collected 172 appearances, 15 goals and 4 assists, also playing 19 games in the Europa League and one in the Champions League. After 14 years in Holland, he chose Italy, his grandfather’s home country, to continue his career, joining the Ascoli project in the summer of 2021. In black and white, he made 98 appearances in three seasons, scoring 9 goals and providing 2 assists.
Botteghin’s performances have been rewarded several times throughout his career. In 2013-2014 he was named best defender of the Eredivisie, while in 2022-2023 he was named best defender of Serie B. His Palmares is also rich with team titles: he won the Eredivisie, three Dutch Cups and two Super Cups.
