Jesus Navas says goodbye to the Spanish national team. A decision that makes him want to end on a high note, with the triumph in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday against England. To pay homage to him, it was decided that tomorrow he will go to the press conference together with coach Luis De la Fuente. An inevitable decision, as can be seen from his recent statements reported by Brand: “I’ve been playing with a damaged hip for several years. There are times when it locks up and it’s more difficult. At half-time against France I was in a lot of pain, but I wanted to continue and help the team.”
Navas’s career in the national team
Navas made his debut with the Red Furies on November 14, 2009, in a friendly against Argentina, which they won 2-1. With 6 appearances under his belt, he was called up by coach Del Bosque for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, which ended with Spain’s first World Cup triumph. In that expedition, he made 2 appearances in the group stage and was a starter in the final against the Netherlands.
Also present 2 years later, when Spain won the second consecutive European Championship by beating Italy in the final act. Out of the game between 2014 and 2018, he was again considered for the qualifications for the 2020 European Championship. During the continental tournament that will end on Sunday, he played against Albania, Georgia and France. In total, he has put together 56 appearances and 5 goals.
