Panathinaikos, offer for Shaqiri. The Swiss is not convinced by the project

Panathinaikos have submitted an offer to Xherdan ShaqiriChicago Fire striker whose contract expires on June 30, 2024. The Greeks, after trying to focus on Maurizio Sarri for the bench, have proposed a very important agreement to the Swiss, one of the protagonists of the European Championship in Germany. There was also time for a small controversy with the Swiss coach Murat Yakin. “I can’t play 90 minutes? The coach decides who plays and who doesn’t. Every player has to accept it, including me. There is no agreement between me and Yakin. Even if I have to start from the bench, I will do my best. This debate is a bit embarrassing. With my style I bring creativity, I can make decisive passes and score goals out of nowhere. It’s similar to Lionel Messi. He simply has this talent and he didn’t have to train it, I see it in myself too”.

However, Shaqiri is not convinced by the projectpreferring other leagues to the Greek one, in case of a return to Europe, which is probably not yet decided. It remains to be seen whether there are openings for a possible reopening of negotiations.

Shaqiri arrived in Major League Soccer in February 2022, so far he has played 75 games in two and a half years, with 16 goals and 13 assists. He was the highest paid player in the franchise, upon arrival from Ligue 1 where he played for Olympique Lyon. 7.5 million euros plus a very high salary.
