Who is Nuno Tavares: Lotito’s possible fourth signing for Baroni’s new Lazio

Lazio’s effervescent market continues. After the purchases of Noslin, Tchaouna and Dele-Bashiru, soon the owner Claudio Lotito could give another blow to the new coach Marco Baroni. The name is that of Nuno Tavaresa left-back owned by Arsenal and eager to redeem himself after a season with more shadows than lights.

Ups and downs, peak in Marseille
Raised between Sporting Lisbon, Casa Pia and Benfica, it is with the Eagles that he arrives in football that counts, playing two years in the first team between 2019 and 2021. A two-year period in which he shows himself as one of the most promising youngsters in European football, attracting the interest of a club historically attentive to talent like Arsenal.

With the Gunners, in the 2021/22 season, he made 28 appearances in all competitions and also scored a goal. The Londoners believe he still has some experience to gain and, for the following year, they decided to send him on loan to Marseille.

The choice could not have been more appropriate, given that with OM he expressed himself as he had never done in his career, showing a certain offensive propensity and scoring 6 goals in 39 games. Returning to Arsenal, he does not figure in Arteta’s plans and therefore a new loan is looming for him. This time in England at Nottingham Forest, where he does not repeat the glories of Marseille.

Quality leap on the flanks for Lazio
A fast left back with good basic technique, he can play both in a back four and as a midfielder in front of a back three. The latter is his favourite role, being able to fully exploit his offensive skills.

A contact between Lazio’s management and the player’s agents is expected soon: the intention is to understand the feasibility of the operation, with Arsenal stuck at the request of 8/9 million for his card and Lotito who would like to lower the price. It would certainly be an ideal solution for both: Nuno Tavares would finally find a club that resolutely bets on him, while Lazio would welcome a quality reinforcement for the outside lanes (which, in the last season, left a lot to be desired).
