Chiellini: “I feel sorry for De Vrij but Watkins’ goal was easily avoidable…”

Present in the ‘Sky’ studio, Giorgio Chiellini he commented on De Vrij’s marking of Watkins for the goal that allowed England to secure the qualification for the final of Euro 2024 at the expense of the Netherlands: “These are small details that make the difference. Watkins’ movement is right but he goes towards the corner, it is not a moment in which he is dangerous and the only thing the defender must not do is want to take the ball. Closing the far post allows the goalkeeper to have an easy save and instead if it goes between the legs… The striker sees it as a great goal and it is a great goal, but it was easily avoidable and I feel sorry for De Vrij who is a great defender. Winning or losing matches is also a question of details”, he said.
